More about me

How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
I am a strong advocate of self-direction and partnering to provide information on how a person can use his/her voice, create goals and strategies, and take the steps to achieve what is important to them. I will challenge the individual I am partnering with to use their voice in creating meaningful relationships and supports in the community and help them to engage in activities to continue moving forward toward goals, while providing support to be an independent self-advocate. I will provide information to assist in making educated choices regarding long term-care needs and assist in learning how to manage an IRIS Plan.

What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
My ultimate goal as an IRIS Consultant is to partner with people to build a stronger community by using each person's gifts to create a natural support network. I have worked with several people who have achieved their goals through the IRIS program and have graduated to no longer needing paid supports as they have learned to live independently.

What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
I have been a licensed foster parent for 12 years. I have learned that control stimulates the fight response. I have also seen how choice can lead to great accomplishments, feelings of self-worth, and motivation to achieve something far greater than one may have thought to be possible. I have learned to think outside the box as an advocate for the children I work with by utilizing choices as I partner with the kids and their families.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a mother to many children...so when I am not working, I am leading 2 Girl Scout troops, teaching Sunday school (as well as sitting as the Youth Group Treasurer), and running my children to their various activities. On the occasion that I am home, I am cooking or cleaning, baking, or in the garden. I enjoy reading and playing the piano as well as hunting, fishing, and camping. In the winter I like to knit and am learning to crochet. I love rescuing animals and have 5 cats and a dog.
