Specialties (e.g., working with autism, the elderly, employment for people with disabilities or youth in transition, mental health, experience with assisted technology)

I have worked with older adults, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and people with physical disabilities in various long-term care programs for 10 years prior to working with TMG. I feel very comfortable with assisting all of these populations, but for five of those years I specialized in helping older adults remain living in their own homes as safely as possible.

More about me

How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
I have been told that I am a very compassionate person and that I have the ability to adapt my communication style so that I am able to work well with anyone that I am partnering with. When working with individuals, I am sure to actively listen, paraphrase what it was that I heard them say to be sure I understood their message, and I then offer timely assistance any way I feel I am able to. I feel the most important key to great communication is knowing how to adjust your approach in each situation, as everyone is unique.

What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
The most rewarding thing about being a TMG IRIS Consultant is helping people learn how to self-direct their own care needs by allowing them to find their self-confidence. Once someone is confident/comfortable with managing their own care, they realize they are much happier because they feel in control of their own lives. It is at that point that they believe that they can accomplish their goals and really try to succeed.

What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
I have worked with older adults, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and people with physical disabilities in various long-term care programs including COP-W, CIPII, CIP1A, CIP1B, Nursing Home Relocation Program, and Family Care. For over 10 years I have collaborated with several professions (Adult Protective Services, Economic Support Specialists, Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Benefit Specialists, Law Enforcement, Housing Authority, Mental Health Providers and Doctors) and I have experience working with and accessing different programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. I feel very comfortable with assisting people with finding ways to remain in their own homes as safely as possible. I am aware of many useful goods and services that can be used to help people remain safe and in the community. I have become familiar with different service providers and have learned how to access local resources, as I worked in four different counties.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a mom of three children and enjoy watching them grow. I enjoy participating in their education and extracurricular activities at school and during the summer. My family and I enjoy camping, bike riding, and visiting with friends and family. I also enjoy watching movies and reading.
