TMG Connects with National Self-Determination Leader Dr. Kevin Mahoney

By: Patti Becker, Community Network Specialist

Kevin Mahoney, PhD, founding Director of the National Resource Center for Participant Directed Services (NRCPDS), visited Wisconsin in early June. His visit included a keynote presentation and workshops at the InControl Wisconsin Living a Self-Determined Life, Aging and Empowerment Conference in Wisconsin Dells and meetings with leadership teams at TMG. Dr. Mahoney shared many historical insights and strategies for the growing self-determination movement in Wisconsin and the United States. In addition, he brought a personal invitation to connect TMG ICA partners and their family caregivers to current national research opportunities. NRCPDS is participating in a three phase grant that will document the benefits and experiences self-determination has for individuals self-directing and their family caregivers. This research will help frame the national conversation and future practices of self-determination.

If you know a family caregiver interested in sharing their experiences and insights, contact Patti Becker for more information about this great opportunity.
