More about me
How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
My approach to helping an individual clear the path ahead is to develop a strong partnership with the participants I am paired with. Building a strong foundation of trust is important to me. I am very honest and respectful. Being honest, building trust and being respectful will allow a participant to feel comfortable in sharing the barriers that they want to overcome. Together we will work on the goals an individual wants to accomplish.
What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
My favorite thing about being an IRIS Consultant is seeing the joy and growth in an individual. Witnessing the happiness one feels when their quality of life improves brings me a sense of satisfaction that not everyone gets the opportunity to experience. As humans we want to feel a sense of purpose and validation; when a participant succeeds, I also share in their sense of accomplishment. I am very proud of my participants and tell them so!
What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
While I appreciate all of the formal education I have, my true preparation came from lived experience. I come from a very diverse family and family dynamic. The combination of education and employment experience, matched with overcoming barriers in my own life and the lives of those close to me, prepared me for this role. I truly believe that we learn more from overcoming obstacles and recognizing the lesson in the mistakes that we make.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I love to create. I am a visual artist using multi-media. I love making art out of things someone would generally throw in a landfill. I also have a daughter who I cherish and love spending time with.
