Prior to coming to TMG I was a Personal Hired Caregiver to my mother as well as a second client for the last 3 years. Both of my parents have disabilities so I have been providing direct care and managing their care plans for over 4 years. I served in the Army and Department of Defense for 7 years and spent several years working within the insurance industry.

How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
Partnering to me is an active dialogue with participants and their families to really listen to and hear what their goals are for independent and active living. Identifying services comes only after I have a clear understanding of the goals of the participant and that understanding, for me, comes from an open dialogue about hopes, dreams and goals.
What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
The most rewarding aspect of being an IRIS Consultant for me is meeting with participants and their families and hearing their stories and painting a picture of the life they want to live moving forward. Having experienced the uncertainties of self-directed care from a family member perspective it is really rewarding to be able to help others in similar situations find comfort, peace and success.
What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
Serving in the military has given me a unique experience to work with a wide array of people across many areas of life and has helped me to be able to listen to others experiences. In addition I have been a direct caregiver myself to both of my parents so I understand the personal side of this program both through my own caregiving and guardian role but also seeing how the program has worked for my parents. I have helped my mother establish her own goals and services so I feel I am able to help others with a unique perspective.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a married father of 4 amazing children and have a small dog named Oliver James. I enjoy watching football (I am a Buffalo Bills fan!) and bowling. Our family owns a small piece of land in the UP of Michigan that we enjoy getting away to during the summers for camping, kayaking and swimming.
