Location & Experience

Other Experience:
I have over 30 years of experience in working with people.  Much of my early work involved working with parents in goal setting to help improve family functioning.  This also involved working with the entire family component to include youth transitioning into adult responsibilities.  I had to obtain a knowledge of resources to assist with the entire needs of the individuals in the family system.  More recently I worked as a caregiver  with the elderly, physical or medically handicapped for which I acquired an understanding of the population needs and struggles.   My work with elderly also included a stroke individual, MS handicapped individual,  as well as elderly battling a host of other medical ailments and diagnoses.  I feel these experiences have given me a broad knowledge and skill set to handle most individual needs.  What information I do not know I will seek out and learn.

More About Me

How do you Partner with people to 'clear the path ahead'?
Partnering means building a relationship with you to achieve your success in your goals.  I believe you are the expert of your life.  I want to learn about your needs, desires and current supports and services. I believe good communication is paramount in our relationship. Together we will develop a plan within your budget to help you achieve your happiness and goal successes.

What's your favorite thing about being an IRIS consultant?
As an IRIS consultant I like building relationships to get to know you.  It is through that relationship I can learn your needs and desires.  I believe strongly this is your life and you should be directing your care.  I am the resource to support and cheer you on.  As an IRIS Consultant I look forward to seeing your success and happiness.

What past experience prepared you to become an IRIS Consultant?
My more then 30 years of experience in working with children and families provided me the skillset to form relationships through effective communication, understanding and listening.  The experience taught me to look at each person as an individual capable of fulfilling his/her dreams and making their own decisions.  Every person has strengths  and supports from which they can  build on.   I have acquired the skills to help form plans that is directed by the individual.  Following that career I worked as a caregiver which opened by eyes to  the struggles of the elderly or physically and medically handicapped.  Also I have been very involved in providing care and supports to an aging father and a handicapped aunt.  Through these personal experiences I have acquired a greater interest and understanding  in assisting this demographic towards success in maintaining independence in the home with supports.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am passionate about the outdoors and prefer a life of physical activity.  I like traveling and enjoying natures beauty by backpacking throughout the United States.   I like finding  new local places to hike, bike, kayak and occasionally will attempt to fish (my pursuit generally lacks any lasting patience).  I would prefer a night in a tent over a comfortable bed any day.  When time permits I also enjoy gardening - nothing better then collecting your own vegetables for a meal.     I also volunteer my time with conservation efforts to include prairie and wood land restoration, stream clean projects, and education projects that promote public awareness of nature.  During winter months  I enjoy snow shoeing and although I am not real good at it I enjoy the relaxation that cross country skis brings.   I enjoy football season - over the years I  became an avid Kansas City Chief fan but have never lost interest in the Packers.
